As we all know English is a global language, and in today’s world it is becoming more and more important to become proficient in it. The English Olympiad program is targeted for young learners to encourage and improve the English learning process for young learners and to focus on English spelling and grammar.
The English Olympiad is both a certification program and also a competition. The English Olympiad is part of the Primary Olympiad set of examinations conducted by the Firefish Networks in collaboration with the Cambridge University Press. The assessment is conducted by subject matter experts from Firefish Networks.
The program focuses mainly on spelling and grammar. The enrolled students receive a spelling book, a grammar book and a dictionary as program materials. Students can also use the provided books as additional practice material for topics in the school.
There are five levels. The English Olympiad is for learners from standard 1 to standard 5. The students in Standard 1 can enroll in Level 1, Standard 2 students in Level 2 and so on.
The program culminates with a City-round written competition. A student qualifying in the City-round competes in the National-round competition. All students participating in IEO International Rank and Percentile. The test papers for the different classes consists of 35 questions, and the duration for the exam is 60 minutes.
The test paper is divided into three sections:
Section I (Word and Structure Knowledge): The topics covered in this are mainly from Prepositions, Tenses, Irregular verbs, Pronouns, Modals quantifiers, Spellings, Collocations, Phrasal verbs, Idioms, Homonyms and homophones, Words related to feelings, Travel, Food, Health, appearance, Character, etc.
Section II (Reading): Topics covered here are mainly from search for and retrieve information from various text types like news headlines, Messages, Letters, understanding the information given in News reports, Time tables, Messages.
Section III (Spoken and Written Expression): Topics covered are mainly from Ability to understand situation-based variations in functions like requests, Refusals apologies, etc. and the use of conjunctions.
If your school is participating in primary Olympiad then the student needs to contact with their class teacher. And if your school is not participating then you will have to request your principal to get in touch with the organizers of the Primary Olympiad.
The score is percentile based. Depending on the percentile students will receive certificate indicating their grade.
